Best Lone Warrior IPL Knocks
There have been several carryjobs in IPL history but 5 of them stand out statistically. We will look at top 5 instances of batsmen scoring highest percent of team runs in an IPL game ever. The only criteria is 50 runs minimum.
#5 Chris Gayle 175 vs PWI (69%)
The highest IPL score is 5th on this list courtesy RCB who also registered their highest total that day. With 11 extras, this iconic ton contributed 69.4% of the team runs. He also picked 2 wickets in the only over he bowled.
#4 Rishabh Pant 128 vs SRH (70%)
One of the most explosive innings played by an Indian batter in the history of IPL. This fearless strokeplay had an array of unorthodox shots while wickets kept falling around him. He contributed 69.6% team runs at SR 203 while rest of the DC batters struck at 98.25 only.
#3 KL Rahul 95 vs RR (70%)
Another stand-out performance from the 2018 season, KL's stand against Royals in a competitive chase at Jaipur was nothing short of a masterclass. Rahul contributed 69.9% team runs in a chase of 158 with little to no support from the other end. PBKS lost the game by 15 runs.
#2 Shikhar Dhawan 99 vs SRH (73%)
With PBKS getting reduced to 88-9 at one stage, this is a classic example of a lone warrior effort. As PBKS managed to reach 143 by the final ball, Dhawan had contributed a mammoth 72.6% and missed a well-deserving ton by just one run.
#1 Brendon McCullum 158 vs RCB (77%)
The OG IPL innings! Still at the top of this record, like many others. A strike rate of 216 in the inaugural match where no other batsman striked above 120 is extraordinary. But to contribute 77.1% runs while doing that is what makes it a benchmark for excellence in T20 batting and is fondly remembered by all IPL fans.
